You are travelling on the highway and intend to exit it. At what point do you start braking before the exit from the highway?

aBefore entering the exit lane (exit).
bAfter entering the start of the exit lane (exit).
cAt any point on the highway.
Why?
For a planned exit, begin braking once you have entered the start of the deceleration lane, which provides space to slow down before leaving the motorway. This avoids making vehicles continuing on the main carriageway slow unnecessarily. The picture shows several lanes and a motorway sign, so you should prepare for your exit in good time. A and C give the wrong place for planned braking before an exit, although a hazard may require you to brake earlier.
