If you park a broken-down car outside a built-up area, are you obliged to place a warning triangle immediately behind the car or on it?

Why?

The car in the photo is on the shoulder and clearly visible from a sufficient distance, so breakdown warnings are not compulsory here. Where a warning triangle is required on an ordinary road outside a built-up area, place it 30-50 m behind the vehicle, not immediately behind it or on it.
