What distance should you keep when overtaking a passenger car?
aSafe, dependent on the width of the road and traffic conditions.
bSafe but longer than 1.5 metres.
cSafe but shorter than 0.5 metres.
Why?
When overtaking a car, you must leave a safe lateral clearance appropriate to the carriageway width and traffic conditions. The rules do not specify a fixed distance in metres for this manoeuvre, so neither a requirement to exceed 1.5 metres nor a limit of less than 0.5 metres is correct.
