If you have stopped your vehicle on an expressway due to a breakdown, must you switch on your emergency lights, and if the vehicle is not so equipped, your position lights?

Why?

On an expressway, every stop caused by a breakdown must be signalled using hazard warning lights or, if the vehicle is not equipped with them, position lights. This also applies when the vehicle is at the right-hand edge of the road, as shown in the photograph. The reduced visibility makes the obstruction harder for approaching drivers to spot.
