When can you return to the right lane after you complete the overtaking manoeuvre on a one-way road with two lanes?

aImmediately after you can see the edge of the overtaken car in your external mirror.
bImmediately after you can see the lights of the overtaken car in the external mirror.
cAfter you've made sure that this will not force the driver of the overtaken car to brake or change its trajectory of driving.
Why?
The vehicle you are overtaking is in the right-hand lane, so you must give way to it when moving back into that lane. You may return only when doing so will not force its driver to brake or change course. Merely seeing an edge of the vehicle or one of its lights in the door mirror does not confirm that the gap is safe.
