Why?
In urban traffic, scan the road ahead and the surrounding area, and check behind you using the mirrors. The picture shows moving traffic ahead as well as parked vehicles and people on the right, all of which need your attention. Looking only just in front of the bonnet or ignoring what is happening behind makes it harder to spot hazards early.
