When using the car extinguisher, is it proper to avoid full opening of the bonnet?

Why?

Smoke is visible around the stopped car in the video. Fully opening the bonnet increases the oxygen supply, which can cause the fire to flare up and burn you. If it is safe to tackle the fire, discharge the extinguisher through a small gap without fully lifting the bonnet.
